I practiced commercial litigation and corporate law for 25 years before returning
to academia to obtain an MSc in history from The University of Edinburgh. I have retained
an interest in American constitutional history, a subject I first studied in college
and then law school. I also have interests in the history of popular sovereignty;
the renaissance in trecento and quattrocento Italy of republican political philosophies,
their reconciliation with Christian theology, and the expression of those ideas in
art; how the United States shaped the present world order, and the challenges that
order is facing with the rise of civilizations having political systems, histories,
and values fundamentally different from those of Western societies.
Personal interests include exercise, classical music, travelling in Europe, and Italian.
